What Is Microblading/Cosmetic Brow Tattooing?

Microblading/cosmetic brow tattooing, also known by a variety of names such as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking, feather touch and hair like strokes is a form of permanent makeup that provides a means to partially or fully camouflage missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of simulated hair using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigments. The technique of implanting pigment after the creation of fine incisions in the skin may date back thousands of years. However, the trend towards using the technique for eyebrows may have emerged in North America in recent years. If you’re looking for natural-looking eyebrows, microblading/cosmetic brow tattooing in Charlotte can help.

Am I a Good Candidate for Microblading/Cosmetic Brow Tattooing?

Microblading is an excellent option for those who are unsatisfied with the appearance of their eyebrows.

It is ideal for people who have experienced hair loss due to alopecia or similar conditions. It is also an excellent option for people who want to improve their brow shape after experiencing damage due to epilation techniques.

Some people may not be good candidates for microblading. These include those who are under 18, are pregnant or nursing, have severe facial acne, or suffer from rosacea, psoriasis, or eczema on the face.

It is not an ideal option for people who are prone to keloids, are taking blood thinners, or have active skin disorders, autoimmune diseases, or epilepsy.

How to Prepare for a Microblading Session

Before your microblading session, avoid sun exposure. Tanned or sunburned skin is sensitive and may lead to poor microblading results. The pigment from microblading can also fade away quickly due to skin regeneration when healing from a tan or sunburn.

A week before your microblading appointment, do not pluck or tweeze your eyebrows. Avoid waxing, threading, or any other eyebrow hair removal to avoid triggering the skin healing process before microblading.

Since microblading is a semi-permanent tattoo technique, do not drink alcohol or caffeinated beverages the day before your microblading session.

Refrain from working out before your appointment to make sure that the microblading pigments penetrate the skin easily.

Avoid aspirin, niacin, Advil, and vitamin E at least 48 hours before the treatment. This will also help improve pigment retention from microblading.

Microblading consultation

During a microblading consultation, we will explain how the procedure will go and will ask about your skincare routine, medical history, and desired goals. We will also learn more about your brow shape, skin type, stroke pattern, and hair color.

How Is Microblading Performed?

Microblading is performed by manually depositing pigment superficially in the upper region of the dermis with the use of a hand tool with attached needles fused together in a linear grouping. It does not involve the use of a machine. Similar to permanent makeup brow treatments using a machine, the microblading technique involves drawing individual, crisp hair strokes that can be very natural looking. Nonetheless microblading is still a form of cosmetic tattooing. The microblading needle groupings tend to contain needles that are extremely fine in diameter in comparison to the needles used in traditional tattooing. However recent advancements in cosmetic tattoo needle technology has also produced extremely fine needle gauges for machine use. We use a numbing solution to limit discomfort, if performed correctly the procedure causes minimal discomfort.

What Is Aftercare Like?

It might take 10-14 days for your newly shaped brows to heal. Avoid picking at the skin around the area to prevent scarring. Follow the clinic’s post-procedure instructions about caring for your skin and consistently cleaning your face. Avoid sweaty activities, and avoid swimming pools, since they can expose you to bacteria.

Keep the eyebrows clean and dry. Avoid washing the eyebrows with water for at least 7 days. Do not apply skincare products or makeup during recovery, and avoid touching the area to preserve the pigment during the healing process.

Freshly microbladed eyebrows may look bigger and darker. Expect minimal shedding in 7 to 14 days after the session. After the shedding process, the true color of your microbladed eyebrows will appear.

The results of microblading should last for 18 to 30 months. To maintain and prolong the appearance of your microbladed eyebrows, protect your face from sun exposure and stay hydrated.
